I currently have rebel xt and am planning to get a 5d. Rebel for long lense, wildlife, etc. and 5d for landscape. In deciding if I should wait on the newest 5d or replacemnt, or get the current 5d with rebate, the only thing I care about is possible pixel increase from 12.8 to whatever. The dust thing is no big deal and the speed is not a factor for me.

I am wondering if the increase in pixels will really do anything for quality. If they increase them, the pixel size will have to go down. Am I not just as well of quality wise to go ahead with current 5d???

Highest IQ is the most important issue for me.

When the improved 5D will come out is anybody's guess. My take is that they will not increase the pixel count on the 5D until they have increased the 1Ds Mk2's pixel count. Since the 5D has only been out a year, I would expect another 6 mos. to a year before it is upgraded. How long do you want to wait?

That would have been my guess on the XT to XTI upgrade because of the d30 but I was wrong.

What about the rebates on the 5d and the 30d? Does that not imply an upgrade may be coming?

IMHO the 5D will still be an amazing camera even if it is replaced it won't render the 5D obsolete by a long shot and the 5D won't stop making good quality images when the replacement omes out. You have to jump on the wagon at some point or you'll always be waiting for the next best thing :)

You mentioned dust too, in my experience of ownership it's exactly the same as the 350D i had before....i.e. not a problem and i don't think twice about where or when i change lenses or worry about dust, life's too short :)

IMHO, if you think that the increment in pixel count from the current 5D and the future whatever D will bring you will bring an increment in "quality", then maybe you should rethink what quality in a picture is. Having said that, I personally think its a "personal" thing. I've seen P&S 6mp cameras produce "Quality" images, but thats me, and in your case you might think that a quality image is an image thats 23mp.

Is 12.8 MP not enough for you? Try to envision what kind of output would require more than 12.8 first.

Personally, I think unless your default print size is bigger than 8x12 inches, you won't see a difference with the same lens most of the time.

Im more than happy with 12.8 mp. Weathersealing would be a big Plus
