Had my EF 28-135 IS recalibrated a couple weeks or so ago and finally got to a duck yesterday. C&C is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Now that it more up to par it hardly comes off the camera. At least until I can afford the 17-40 L. I'm actually enjoying using this lens now.

Hey Herb, mind telling what the cost for re-calibration was? I just had my 100-400L done, [$193 + shipping], and it's a whole different lens. I think my 28-135 needs it too. I like the lens, but now that I know what to look for, I see it's soft.

Was your 100-400 under warranty?

Great shot! I have been singing the praises of my 28-135, against the background of constant claims of softness. I am just glad that mine is sharp without having to have it recalibrated!

Mine was under warranty so I signed it up on the Irvine Canon site then sent it in (Insured, for about $12 USD). 10 days later I had it back and so far seems to be doing what it was intended to do.

At first I thought it was just me not knowing how to use the IS but eventualy did a bit of testing of my own and found that it was also focusing about 2 inches in front of where the focus point was aimed.

I own several L's and my 75-300mm IS is still one of my favorite lenses, almost tempts me to buy a 28-135mm IS or 17-85mm IS.

Hi
I just ordered the 28-135mm lens. How do I know if it needs recalibrating? Is that something you do to lenses that have been used over a certain amount of time? Where to you get something like this done?

It should be right on if it's new. You'll know if it's not, you won't be able to get a real sharp picture. And Canon is the only one who can do it as far as I know.
I just had a 100/400L done. Took a couple weeks and $193, but it's real sharp now. They replaced the IS unit, cleaned and calibrated. I am now going to send my 28-135 in for calibration soon. It's worth it, and I like the lens. :)

It has become my standard walk-about lens and have been very pleased with it since the calibration. I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed that I had to send in a new lens but I'm now happy I have it.
