A follow on from a recent post, sunrise over valley of the kings. A few pics from Cairo and Luxor, a most fascinating country, rich in history, poor living for the majority of its people. A complete eye opener.
For the Photographer the opportunities are endless although it makes you feel a bit uneasy due to the problems in the past of killing the tourists. Every street corner, every hotel, every coach trip, every tourist area in fact are the army or police armed with AK47's etc. I counted about 40 tourist police around one Pyramid alone, all would approach you for a ' Baksheed ' tip.
Dont let this put you off though, in a way you feel oversafe and the rewards outway the downside.
The nile, fantastic to see, not so good if you fall in. There are worms that eat through the skin and attack your stomach with the inevitable problems that you die. Perhaps the true meaning of a Death on the Nile.

How the locals live, the hole in the ground is actually his house, but most mud houses have satalite dishes as they love football

A common site, more police than tourists

The Pharoahs would turn in the Tombs if they could see the surrounding Cairo
