The first thing is some freelance shots for our local paper. Shots from a swim meet. I would assume they have a preset price structure for this typee of thing, but I just want to know, so that I am not taken for a ride. Circulation is about 20K.
Secondly, I shoot a play at my high school as a favor for the director. I printed out about 70 4X6s and she gave them out to the cast as presents. They really liked them, and some of them would like enlargements. how much should i charge? 4X6, 5X7,8X10.
Thanks,

Not sure about the freelance work for the paper, but the reprints should be no less than cost plus 30% if you don't make at least 30% on anything you do you are not paying the bills.

it really depends if you want to make a buck out of you school mates. If you do stick with goforphoto's rule

It's not about making a buck. at 30 % you are covering the time you'll spend getting the images to the lab and picking up for delivery etc. If you were just trying to make a buck, I'd do a 100% markup min.

Most newspapers don't pay a whole lot for photos unless it's major news.

For the school play shots look at what local pricing is for other photographers and go from there. I would discounted some since your doing it as a favor more than a business transaction.
