Hi! I just got my A80 today and read through the manual and took some test shots~ I am loving this camera! I usually do everything 'auto' but I'm going to try to learn how to use it in manual mode, too.

My question~ when you are shooting in the auto mode does it always use the highest resolution and compression? I want to always take the highest quality images and I'm wondering if I need to manually change the resolution and compression each time or if it is already the default.

Thanks! :D

Hi
To start with you question is not stupid and you are justified .

Well i own A40 but functions don't change so much betwen a40 and a80(ihope).

When one is in Auto mode, camera itself sets following
Iso speed
Aperture
Shutter speed
Flash intensity

To set compression and resolution you need to press menu button while in auto mode. Once you press menu first options it displays is that of resolution , you can change resolution by pressing set and navigate between choice by pressing button for timer and macro /snap shot button to finally set resolution and come out this option press set. you are bought option of setting resoultion, to change quality press macro button.
i always shoot at highest quality and highest resolution so that i may take out Printouts . Let me know if all your doubts are clear
