Which do you prefer, the color or b&w? C&C on the photo also appreciated.

I prefer the b/w
And I also like the amount of light showing on the darkside of the face
well done

The black and white. I ask myself, does the color contribute anything to this photo? And for this, I would say it doesn't, and therefore is an unneccessary element of the photo (similar to clutter). Just my opinion.

The melancholy tone belies your sunnier POTN image. :) :)

In any event, I vote for the B&W version although on my screen it shows a little flat.

B&W gets my vote.

Tough choice, thanks for making my brain hurt :D . I think though that I favor the colored version, I feel it projects a little more emotion than the B&W.

Both are good. I like the B&W Best. It seems to go with the mood of the photo better.

I think it's a lovely shot. I prefer the black and white one, though prefer it with a bit more contrast - how do you like my tweak? (converted to b&w with channel mixer - 25,65,15,-5), and then added a levels adjustment layer to bring the white point and grey point further left (though didn't make a note of the final settings).

Color is a winner here. The b/w version is too flat.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I agree that the b&w is too flat, but I wasn't sure how to fix it. Thanks goatee for the tips!

Is this any better?

No worries Becca. It is better, but I'd increase the contrast further by pulling in the white point from the right more. To get the image below, I opened the image in your last post, and used input levels with values 0, 0.88, 181, which for me, makes it a punchier and moodier image.
