My second ever attempt at PJ, and I love it. Sadly, I was limited to a kit lens and a 50mm 1.8, but no excuses, I did my best. What do you guys think?

That chick with the bandan over her face...

For some reason I find her extremely attactive.

I like this one because I know he's thinking, "I get to beat me up some skinhead today!"

I like this one because the bandana will do NOTHING to hinder identifying her due to the tattoos.

I like this one and I am pretty sure that the officers in the pics wouldn't mind a a copy or two.
http://visualoddity.com/perm/National_Socialist_Party_Rally_0016.jpg

How was the reaction by the officer's when you were taking their pictures? How close did they let you get to them?

VisualOddity
16th of November 2006 (Thu), 08:58
The officers were great. Very nice, and had no issues w/ me taking thier pics. :)

That first one you posted: There was a guy next to him holding $40 and yelling at the NSM's that he wanted an "NSM blowjob" and a LOT of stuff liie that. The cop was having trouble containing himself. Then the the guy said, "Oh, maybe I speak German then!" and started yelling all the same stuff at them in German, the cop just started openly cracking up (still trying to contain it), which is when I saw the opporitunity to shoot. It was halarious... lol

Those are impressive. Well exposed, composed, and most importantly, EMOTIONAL! Those spark emotions from all sides on many different levels. I'd call your local paper and ask them when you get more shots like that.

"Oh, maybe I speak German then!"

:(:(:(:(:(:(

I can't believe how ppl would be that stupid to still believe in that n*azi crap. I mean, didn't "we" (me as a german saying that) learn? I wasn't born when all this happened, but I can't believe people actually believe in that. Seriously, you must be sick in the head to have an attitude like that. The worst part is that everyone all around the world still thinks Germans are a bunch of n*azis. It's just sad.

This really makes me sad..

Regards, Matt

PS: by the way... It should've been "N*azis Raus" not "aus", just for the language part ;)

I love the pics. Some are a bit dark for my liking, but you were photographing some very dark folks.

Love this one though, just because you can almost guess what he is thinking given the occasion.

What is going on in that picture?

And I find the female correspondant attractive as well. Might just be the two full sleeve tattoos, but I can't figure out what draws me to her.

And it really is a shame that there are people who still live by those ideals and beliefs. Such shallowness and inability to compromise is rediculous. Some great shots, by the way. Maybe a group shot of the anti-protesters to show the general (and seemingly more widespread) feelings to really capture what happened that day. Either way, very nice pictures.

Great shots though. I'm glad you posted so many!

Matt,
Being non-German I think I can safely say that the world today does not view Germany as being full of ****s.

To those that are attracted to the female correspondant: Judging by her tattoos she is one of the protesters or of the same idealogy as them. I am pretty sure there were anarchist and other groups there as well.

The new post and my subscription of it brought me back. Is n.a.z.i. (****) really in the swear filter? Because I don't think I put an actual swear word in there.

Edit, well yes it is. That's the word insdie the parenthesis. Hmmmm.

I really love these shots, they capture emotion.

Some of the people there confuse me, such as the "Anti-racist skinheads" as is says on the jackets, the anti-fascist n@zi veteran in the wheelchair, and the girl with the che guevara tattoo. as far as i know che was a communist (far left politically) and n@zis were fascist (far right).

I guess it jsut goes to show how intelligent these people really are.

Also, just to clarify... Skinheads and Racism do NOT go hand in hand. Thats a common misconception, thanks to all the racist skins out there, but not accurate. Skinheads were all about unity and working class pride back in the day, and race wasn't an issue. There are still lots of "Traditional Skinheads" out there that have nothing against anyone of any skin color. There are also lots of SHARPs out there, which stands for SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice. Just food for though... ;)

Keep Austin weird. (just kidding)

A couple great shots with the sunlight and skin tones. The girl with Che was pretty striking. I do think a couple photos are missing something... for example, I can't tell what the two guys walking/running with the police escort are doing, etc.

I also wish the last photo capture the whole flag.

Why are they hiding their faces, because they are cowards. If they are supporting the cause there is no need to hide their faces. None of those people have any idea of what that symbol and what they believe in really did to humanity. They cannot fathom the loss of life because of 1 man with an idea. People like this make me sick.

I do love the photos, you did a great job of portraying the mood and feeling.

Well, let's say the people who are peacefully holding their march there have been known to be less peaceful when they encounter one of the anti-rallye protesters or reporters who is on his own at a later stage. Plus, they normally do not really believe in peaceful demonstrations that much when there's a bunch of them in a dark alleyway at night

Great images, my favourites are the pictures of the cops and the reporter!

Best regards,
Andy

Amazing shots. But i don't get why they cover there faces, but yet display there tattoos? I mean the tats can be another way of finding the individual if they commit a wrong doing. But it is amazing on how there are still natzi's in America. WOW! I like how this rally didn't end like the rally in Mc Arthur Park, Shoot the immigrants but not the racists. WTF? Just goes to show you how messed up the world has become now. What a shame.

I also found the female photog attractive. I love strong women with good ink.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I really appreciate it very much. Lately I haven't been quite as motivated to go shoot. Thanks to financial issues, I am down to one lens (a 28-105 3.5+), so that hasn't helped. But seeing all these comments really makes me wanna go shoot. It reminds me that people actually like seeing my work. lol

So thanks guys, I really do appreciate all the comments. :)

Wonderful work!

If you submit them to a paper, don't send any of your photoshop work. Altering photos is a big no no unless its editorial, and if they suspect that you "treated" the photo, they may not respond to your stuff ever.

Personally, I have used the same lens (28-105 3.5-4.5 USM) for years! It has been my walk around lens and most of the shots that I have taken were with it....

That being said, it was retired last week and replaced with a new 24-70 2.8L that I am starting to love even more.

You got some great shots there! Good job...a good time later of course...
