Hello folks,

Just thought I would let you know that there is a competition/exhibition on the net www.photo2004.com

It is run by a camera club quite near me, although I am not a member.

I entered last year and managed to get a 'highly commended' and I am sure that lots of the regulars on these forums could do well too.

So why not send in an entry or two ?

This is not meant as a negative comment, but is worth mentioning to save some people a click-through...

U.K. film and digital photographers only.
1 March 2004 deadline.
Gold and Silver medal prizes; entrants will receive a catalogue.
1.50 Pound entry fee per photo, minimum 6 Pounds.

And if anyone knows how to put the Pound Sterling sign in, I would be grateful.

Cheers,

Don

Alt-0163 = £

Thanks for the thought, but it doesn't work for me... holding Alt key and using the numeric keypad... although I tried Alt with other numbers and they work.

If the alt keys don't work, you should still be able to copy and paste it from the character map.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map

That's what I get with Alt-156 on the number pad. Guess I'll cut and paste. :)

Don, it's also dependent upon the font you are using. Some fonts don't contain certain characters. The character map will show all characters in whatever font is active at the moment. I'm assuming you probably already knew this, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

£ = Alt-156 for me (numeric keypad). But thanks for getting this started - I'd have never known otherwise.

The reason you can't make things foolproof is that there's no way to imagine all the things fools can do.

I WAS using the numeric keypad... I just didn't have NumLock on. :p

(I never use the numeric keypad for anything but navigation. Thanks very much for the tip.)

Works fine here too.

Can anyone point me to a reference of the common Alt-xxx codes for these characters?

Thanks,
Bill

its the standard ASCII table unless you are using some GUI or another... then its up to the locale settings and the font that you are using... by "locale" i'm meaning that us english has different characters in some places than uk english (the euro symbol for one example) and they both have different characters in the same positions from german or dutch (for example)... i won't even start on the asian character sets or the russian cryllic stuff...

confusing? yes... has been for many years... getting better? depends on the GUI you are using... where to find a "chart"? a search on google for "ascii chart" turns up about 232000 of them... have fun! its almost as deep a world as "whatever you want to do with computers" ;)
