With all this opening of umbrellas indoors..... Am I gonna suffer in bad luck doom for the rest of my life?

Switch to softboxes. No bad luck, better control of light spillage. If you're gonna stick with umbrellas, don't walk under ladders...tempting Fate too much if you do both.

Dave, I have often wondered the same. The truth is, that there are a few ways to counter act any bad luck from opening umbrellas inside.
The most popular -and the one I use the most- is to simply take ALL studio photographs with the SAME pair of socks. After a session wearing my 'Special' socks, I take the stuff down, and put the socks back with the Strobes. Sure, the holes do make me look a bit less professional, but this is why I own lots of gaffer tape.
Problem solved !!... :)
(The only other solution I know of to offset the bad luck, includes a penguin, some celophane, and about 30 red dice among other things... not as practical)

I just shot some stuff last night using the umbrella and now I'm hiding out for all of today so the bad luck doesn't find me.....I'm in a dark room quietly typing on my computer. Generally the bad luck doesn't carry much past 24 hours after use of the umbrellas. Actually, now that I think of it, the shoot last night was in church so I should be OK.:o
I am interested in Mario's second suggestion involving the penguin and cellophane though...
