Anyone familiar with this particular tripod? (Gitzo G-1410) I'm thinking of buying one together with an Arca-Swiss Monoball B1 and an Acratech Quick release plate. Does this setup sound good?
I currently have a 300D but I plan on upgrading to 5D in the spring. I'm willing to spend for a tripod as I know it will last me for a good while and help me improve all my pictures (right now I have a very bad one).

Gitzo and Arca-Swiss is never a bad idea =)

I'd probably go with a 13 gitzo series and a carbon fiber one. Something like 1327. Or 1325 if you don't want a rapid column.
IMO 14 series is an overkill even for big lenses.

Ehehe... When I saw "overkill" I thought "great! he's providing me with an cost-effective alternative to this rather expensive setup" (the setup I described in my original post comes up to 1000CAD)
Then I realized that the ones you suggest are double the price of the 1410 :D
I don't mind that the tripod is a bit heavy. 3.8 kg is not that bad...

I see the 1340 is not carbon fiber... it's 12cm shorter though... I wouldn't want to have to bend down all the time.
How high does it have to be ideally? In relation to me I mean... (and no, I don't really want a center column)
