PJ is a very difficult area to get into. theres a lot of politics behind who ets hired on at newspapers and magazines, there aren't many openings, and its a very rough career choice.

Brooks Institute has a PJ program to help you get started, or you can try just building the best portfolio you can and showing it to news art directors, and going to as many events as you can to cover them for yourself and submit images to see if you got something there person missed.

It seems to me like photojournalists have the worst jobs ever. Unpredictable working conditions that consume their life and barely any pay to show for it. I would hate to be a photojournalist.

If you have never shot for a newspaper before, you will most likely have to start at the bottom. I would call your local newspaper editor and see if they use "stringers" (Freelance photojournalists) and start there.

Once you establish yourself as a photojournalist, THEN you may be able to get a gig shooting overseas.

I dont think anyone would send an inexperienced photog overseas to shoot a war. That is typically for Associated Press photogs
