OK, so I'm still a bit confused with something. How can you tell if a lens is a fisheye? Will they say "fisheye" on the box or is there another term that my noobness still hasn't discovered yet. I feel like I've been sleeping through the posts and couldn't find an answer. I know, I didn't look hard enough, but it's 1:30 in the am and I gotta work in the morning. So if anybody has a list or reccomendations besides the Peleng 8mm, which I would get, but I'm stuck with having to settle with whatever Dell.com has in their selection. So if you know of a fisheye that Dell has, please let me know. Thanks a bunch in advance, folks. I appreciate any info you could give me.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm using a 350D/Rebel Xt body.

Not tried it myself to be fair, but I know alot of people have said that you dont get the full fisheye effect on a 1.6 crop sensor (such as the 300D, 350D, 20D, 30D, etc).
Might be worth renting one or perhaps someone here could post some examples. I was thinking of a fisheye lens, but would probably go for the 10-22 until I get a full frame body.

I used a 15mm fisheye on a 10D to get very wide angle coverage and a lot of times you just couldn't tell it was a fisheye. Which is good if you want wide but bad if you want fishy. For wide angle now I'd just say use a 10-22 or the Sigma 12-24. For fishy go with the Peleng 8mm or for more $$$ the Sigma 8mm.
And to answer the OP question, yes, fisheye lenses will be labeled 'fisheye'.

No offense intended, and really none of my business, but I would have guessed that as a self-described newbie, you would have more pressing needs than a specialty lens?

pretty much non of your business.. if he wants his first lens to be a lensbaby fisheye or whatever else he can take a look at and interests him then that's what he wants.. thats the whole beauty of DSLR's...

sariI don't disagree, as I stated first in my post. Perhaps I should have phrased my reply as a question instead of a statement. I was really trying to get at why he feels he needs a fisheye for the purpose of determining if there is another, less specialized solution to his needs.

sariKind of what I was wondering. As I said, I should have just asked the question outright. I never want my posts to be construed as "bashing", neither by the OP nor anyone else who should happen upon them.

No offense taken. And what I'm trying to do is get a few different lenses for variety. The fisheye would be my 4th lens. Currently I have the Kit 18-55, 50mm 1.8, and the Sigma 70-300 APO DG. Since I'm still learning all the ins and outs of photography, I figured if I had a good variety I'd learn what worked for different lenses and see how doing the same thing with different lenses came out. Basically I'm just gunna play around and see what happens. And thanks for all the info folks. I'm thinking from the sound of everything I'm just gunna wait a bit and try and pick up one of the 8mm.
