Hi, I just recently purchased an S40 and I'm having no end of grief with the photorecord print utility. Has anyone else ever seen this:
If I try to access the PhotoRecord utility either directly or via the print button within ZoomBrowser EX I get the following error message: "An error occured while making a setting in the printer driver for Rendering Subsystem". When I acknowledge the error by clicking the okay button within the error message window I then get the following error message: Internal error: "An error occured while making the album and setting up the printer. The album could not be built".
I have contacted Canon about this and I'm not getting much action. If anyone could shed some light I would really apprectiate it.
Thanks.

I've had a couple of errors that I'm pretty sure were just related to a lack of memory available on the home computer - rebooting fixed them each time - I haven't had any errors since installing the upgrade from the photorecord web site... that may be worth a try...

Just spent 45 minutes with Canon about this prob. Very nice lady led me through lots of steps like uninstall/reinstall, etc. Two major things they think are trouble are limited system resources and HP drivers.
Short answer to long story is I was told that the OPAI11.dll file is a Windows problem - I have 3 copies of this file on my system - Window, Zoombrowser, Photorecord. They suggested I contact Windows..........
They are collecting complaints and referrring them to "senior" software engineers. Neither Canon nor Photorecord has a fix.
If somebody finds a patch, let us know.

I actually now have PhotoRecord working. Unfortuneatly I had to crash my whole computer to do it, after using disaster recovery disks to get my machine going again, reinstalled Zoombrowser and now PhotoRecord works.
As for the HP drivers I'm not sure I follow you, I have a Canon printer and drivers. Also the error that I had did not mention the OPAI11.dll file.

This problem may occur if the wrong version of the "opapi11.dll" file
is being used. To rectify this problem, this file will need to be
copied to the correct directory.
To copy the file to the correct directory, you will need to follow
these steps:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Locate where you installed the PhotoRecord Directory - This will
be the location you specified during the PhotoRecord installation. The
default location is: C:\Program Files\Canon\PhotoRecord
3. Locate the "Program" directory within the PhotoRecord directory
4. Single click on the "opapi11.dll" file to highlight it, then right
mouse click and select "Copy" from the displayed menu
5. Locate the "OpPrintCom" directory within the PhotoRecord directory
6. Right mouse click within the "OpPrintCom" directory and select
"Paste" from the displayed menu
7. Restart PhotoRecord

I got the same error after I installed Microsoft Service Pack 3 for Windows/2000. I have not solved the problem, but.. it's not related to opapi11.dll that I could tell. I removed all printers from my system, then installed a "local" printer only. Then restarted zoombrowser and photorecord. Now, if you are not attempting to connect to a network printer, your problem MAY be the opapi11.dll...my problem STILL might be this file, but it is related to NETWORK printers. Note, that this problem was NOT evident prior to service pack 3 for windows 2K. So. the question is, is the developer who wrote opapi11.dll going to update his software to make it compatible with W2K SP 3 or do we have to re-install windows and not install this service pack until he does. By the way. Service Pack 3 looks like an entire operating system replacent based on the files I saw it install on my machine....GEEZE.

I got the same problem with a W2K in Chinese...
I confirm :
1. It should not be related to HP Printers (mine is epson stylus color 440).
2. doubt it is related to memory issues (I have about 512M, and no background taks, all available).
3. doubt on the opapi11.dll manipulation (both are the same in program and opprintcom... 1.3.54.1)
4. doubt on the network stuff (I have only one printer... local...)
5. no idea about SP.... (My W2K is 5.00.2195 no SP)
I am wuite sad, because photocapture looks good and I would be happy to try it... But the support from Canon is quite poor on that issue.
I hope some computer guru will find out something with a painless remedial plan... Looking forward :).

This may not be related, but I had a text-only printer installed that I used for printing to a file. Photorecord gave me a similar error message with the text printer's name mentioned, so I deleted the printer, then it ran fine.
So IF you have some kind of generic text printer installed, it could be the problem. Good luck :)

Hi Glenna,
Thanks for the tip... I had no name mentionned in the error message but by removing the printers, it worked for me too...
If it can help others, I had :
1. Initial Stage : Epson Stylus 440 & Default Microsoft Fax Installed. Photorecord did not start, reporting the errors above (see first messgae of this post).
2. Removal of both the printer & fax
3. Start Photorecord... It works. No printer reported.
4. Reinstall the Printer Stylus 440
5. Start Photorecord... It works. Stylus 440 detected.
Thanks to Glenna for this tip,
Cheers,
Alexis.

I just got the A40 and...
I have a Compaq computer with tons of memory running Win98se. I have had nothing but problems with PhotoRecord. No need to go into details but it is the same as discused here.
I have also had some problems with the camera itself the biggest being the fact that I only get 2hrs run time vs. the specified 4hrs. Even with NiMH batteries the time is not much better.
Here is the reply from Canon:
Dear ----,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately we have not had this problem with other customers that are running Windows 98 before. We are sorry that your system failed to print from our software.
We do apologize for any inconveniences.
My solution:
I took the DAMN thing back and got a full refund!!!

All these posts were so long ago!...There is still no fix for the error regarding OPAPI11????...I get a message that I have not seen here which is:
OPPRINTSERVER caused an exception 10H in module OPAPI11.dll...NO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT "OPPRINTSERVER" and I have been through much of what has been mentioned with this problem...copy/paste OPAPI11 in to windows and printer...whatever, (I was guided by a techy) and uninstall/reinstall...I did not ask for Photorecord..it came with my Powershot G2 digital camera..is it related to Zoombrowser?...I can't stand that they do not support a product that they put out as "complimentary" (no THANK YOU since it quite sucks) and then try to get you to buy the Gold Version...YEAH RIGHT!!, like I would buy a bigger, badder version of this??...I have an HP officejet k80xi which works great with every program except photorecord.......dang.....has nothing been found out about how to fix it and move on!!!??
Anyone with any thoughts or words of knowledge??
many thanks
