as i said in the original post ,i spent an hour or so searching for that little bugger.was stoked when i found him, after spending 20 odd minutes shooting him and waiting for him to move to a better position to get a better shot.
when i had given up on him i was walking back into the house and as i walked past my kids swing set ,i thought mmm, just have a squiz at what could be on here and i found another jumper, but this time no leaves and bushes for him to hide in.
so here is the 2nd one for that night.

What is the lens stopped down to in these shots? They DOF seems to be a bit narrow, and the shots could be a touch sharper. I'm thinking the aperture may be the cause of that...

for comparison, these were done with my 35mm f/2 reversed... set to f/11 -> http://photos.tallmanphoto.com/gallery/2038231/1/104593686

Great shots. Not so crazy about the narrow DOF.

You stick with it....It just keeps getting better the more trigger time you spend with it... The real plus is you can see to focus in the bushes and in other marginal light situations. You are doing fine....Keep up the good work... The small rev direct mount lens is great if you have a flood light on the target for focusing:) :)..:D :D.....Alex

thanks for the comments guy's,Alex i will be sticking with it don't worry bout that.i love macro shooting, climbing all round the garden at night with a torch and strange looking camera setup(my modified flash),my wifey has a good laugh at me though, calling me Harry Butler and all.
as for the aperture ,f14 for these.i was just stoked that the flash setup was working and struggling with that teeney focus .
cheers all

Welcome to stacking:D... Night does bring out the best subjects for the rev50. The smaller the better.... I find some of my coolest subjects on the hand rails at the house. The porch lights call them in and offers enough light to hit focus.... I try to keep aperture between f20 and f22 and that results in quite a bit better DOF..... Anyway, you are doing a fine job and by trying different settings eventually you find the sweet set up that consistantly gives you what you want.......Your doing a fine job.....Alex

here are a few more shots with my reversed/stacked 50.

Interesting shots. Would you mind explaining your lens set-up for me? Are you using one reversed 50mm lens, or more than one lens? Also, how do you select the aperture when the lens is reversed? Do you select the desired aperture before you remove the lens and reverse it? Thanks in advance!

cool shots.....

would anyone mind please helping a newb on the reverse 50mm method? I tried searching but can't find the right info...maybe i'm not using it right....

anyway, if i could just get a very simplified breakdown of what I need to do to take macro shots with a 50mm lens i would be grateful :) thanks!

All you have to have is your lens and camera. Take the lens off, hold it backwards to the camera body, use the viewfinder to get your subject in focus, and take your picture. A reversing ring will certainly make things easier -- one side of the ring threads onto the filter threads on the front of the lens, and the other locks onto the camera body-- but you can get by without it.

Patrick, the 50mm lens i use is one i had on an old 1960's maybe even 1950's pentax camera i found in an old box of bit's,it is slightly smaller than the thread on the end of my 55-200mm so i ran some small bits of duct tape around the end of it to take it up closer to 52mm and carefully srewed it into the UV filter on my 55-200mm.i open the aperture right up on the 50 and focus on infinity.
once it is in place on the end of the 55-200 i also wrap an led headlamp around it which helps me with focusing.the 55-200 is set to manual focus and i tend to have the zoom at 55 till i find the subject and once i have the subject i can zoom in if greater magnification is needed.
i have also tried the same 50mm reversed on my 135mm f2.8 ,but didnt like not having the zoom.
i am yet to try the 50mm straight on the camera(but i plan to make up an adapter out of a rear lens cap) i have also pulled apart an old FD zoom lens and i am in the process of trying to use some of the glass in that.has anyone done this before?any tips would be good ?
so there you go,oh and for my flash, lol. being on an extreme budget(infact it is so extreme i dont have one)what i do here is i found an old cardboard tube that i lined with tinfoil and cut a slot into it,so the slot sits over my flash and now the flash shoots down the tube and out the end and down onto my subject.VERY VERY CRUDE ,BUT IT WORKS,for me anyway.
cheers
i'll try to take some pics tomorrow if you want

Adam......
