The holidays are coming up and I think this would be a great time to do this. There are some local events that I think people would like this service.

I print onsite all year long but I don't print anything smaller than
5x7's. Think about your time, your help and supplies 4x6's are not worth the $$ IMO

Depends are your venue. Pets are big at Christmas time. Contact a large pet store, setup a basic background. Buy a decent 4x6 dye sub printer and go to work. It is an impulse item and worth $10 a shot easy.

Thanks Jon, I will try that.

Vegas, what type of events have you done?

I have and I have another couple of them coming up in the next few weeks. I don't try to sell individual copies per se. I have approached a number of larger companies and as an added value to their Christmas party I set up a backdrop and take shots as couples come in. I have them printed and put in a folder a couple of hours later. They can come by and pick them up if they want.

My dealings is with the company or the organizing committee of the party. I set my rate by the number of people attending, not the number that are taken. I will then put the images on a website for them to view and order more if they want.

I've set my pricing so that I make it worth their while so that they will choose the 5X7. The differential between that and the 4X6 is pretty slim.

I don't chase the events where I would have to try and sell individual images.

Everything from sports to family reunions, including company parties etc. pricing depends on whos paying for the product and I always secure a deposit for just being there. Some events can be a bust it depends on the crowd. Currently have the Olympus dye subs and use anywhere from a two to three man crew. Depends on the crowd.

We do Dance parties, aka Balls and do the onsite printing using a pair of Kodak Dye Subs.
it's usually 3 people, and a 4th if the event is a large one. Me doing the printing, the photographer shooting, and 1 or 2 people handling the sales.

Our packages are sold as units, and a unit being a combo of prints that fit on an 8x10 sheet. We charge $15/unit.

I also do golf tournaments with onsite printing using a color laser printer.
We do that as a pre-paid event, usually the tournament holder will get a sponsor to pay for all of the pictures.
I have a helper bring the equipment with us and then they drive me around the course as I snap all the pics of the 4somes, then go back to the clubhouse and I print them all out and put them into folders.

Great idea, but I think 4X6 is TOO small.
