I was never a flash user except the built in the flash that was on my digital P&S. I now have the 30D and purchased it in pieces. Next week is to be my flash purchase but the expo is this weekend. This expo is most likely going to be indoors with available light coming from entrances and exits. Like an indoor exhibit at a fair. I was wondering if I could get away with using the pop up flash to fill in the picture or do i really need to have the 430EX. I promised myself to use no credit cards for the new camera equipment and have kept that promise. The images I want to take are pictures of tattoos if the owners are willing so were talking close ups of the artwork.

I used my 350D and popup flash at DragonCon this year. It worked very well. It took place indoors in three hotels with normal interior hotel lighting. I didn't do any real close-ups, but everyone was happy to pose, all I had to do was ask. I also made a point to thank them too. I don't have and external flash yet, but it would have added weight to my camera/grip combo.

Hope this helps.
