I've tried b&h and adorama - no luck.
Any other reputable dealers out there?

thanks...

You must be kidding. The 50mm 1.8 is only £79 (Warehouse Express) in the UK. By the time you add carriage from the US and duty you would only be saving a few pence. Even your local Jessops only want £79.90

The MK I is a different issue and is very hard to find. The other is the F1.4 which may be worth importing for the savings.

Is the 50 f1.8 mark I version the circa 1987 version that came with EOS 650 and similar, with metal body and manual focussing ring?

Is the mark I version optically similar to the mark II version?

Thanks in advance.

yes, but I'll be buying a few other things at the same time...that'll reduce the costs.

Metal fitting instead of the MK II's plastic. Intoduced in early 87. The optics are the same build as the MK II. Some people say it is sharper, but that maybe the placebo factor. Me, I prefer the 1.4 for build and image quality.
