Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting on the forums. I would just really really appreciate some criticism on a few photos that I've taken. I'm very new to this and friends and family all tell me that they like the pics, but I feel like they wouldn't really tell me the truth so they wouldn't hurt my feelings. Haha.. so some honest critism would be greatly appreciated!

the link to my site is http://www.ventrice.org/coppermine

I used a Sony Cybershot for the anniversary pictures and berry farm pictures. For the "senior pictures" and "kids" all I had at the time was a fuji finepix 3.2mp point and shoot.. So on those.. I know the quality won't be great!

Thanks so much!!! :)

You would get more response if you would link some photos into your post.. So we do not have to look through your site to find what you are concerned with.

I went and checked your site out again. I think your equipment is limiting you. You have some great compositions and poses, but image quality is lacking. WAY grainy!!!

thanks a bunch.. I am getting a Rebel xTi for Christmas.. the "senior" pictures are probably really grainy because of the awful, awful camera.. i just wanted to 'practice' composing and posing people in shots. i really appreciate the advice!!

If you want to continue to do portraits I would recommend getting the following lenses: Sigma 30 1.4 or Canon 35 F2, Canon 50 1.4, and Canon 85 1.8. I recommend primes mainly because you get the best image quality, lighter weight, and light gathering for the price or Bang per Buck. I would also highly suggest a Canon Speedlight. I have the 580 and LUV it. If you want zoom lenses I would highly recommend Sigma 70-200 2.8 or Canon 70-200 4L as best bang per buck.

I checked a few of your images and agree with Ryan, compositions are pretty good but the images are too soft. It would appear you have a pretty good eye which is being undermined by your equipment.

Very nice shots. You seem to have a good eye.
