Hey folks...

I've heard the term "CPS" spoken of when you are registered with Canon as a "Professional" photographer... is there anyone here (professional or not) that could speak to the requirements / benefits of being a member... the only reason that I'm asking is that I know when you are registered, if you have any problems with your equipment (which is obiviously registered with Canon) that you get a faster turn around time on getting it fixed and back to you and they lend you a replacement while it's being done (in certain (maybe all) circumstances... I had my L 24-70 lens in for calibration back in July of this year and it was gone for about a month (which is not a good turn around time)!

If you can... give us the scoop!

Thanks,
Phil

Canon Professional Services.

There are a multitude of links in the archives here(search) that will get you the application form specific to your country.

I'm aprofessional and see very little use for it right now.

It varies by country. I can only speak to the process in Canada and here is the criteria for us.

Must have pro level equipment - at least 1 - 1 series body
At least 2 L glass lenses
You must be able to prove that you make a significant portion of your income from photography. IE - you are a professional.
You have to supply copies of some of your works, customer references, customer testimonials, etc.

They do not hand out the membership lightly, at least here which is fine by me.

It would be kind of defeating if everyone with the equipment requirements were given status. The repair/loaner program would thus be swamped and for those that make their primary living from this might be unable to get the loaners.

I can tell you that here they did check with my references to make sure they were real. I spoke with them a couple of times so that they were satisfied. It took about two months from the time I submitted until I got approved.

The only thing that I really wanted it for was if one of pieces of gear got damaged that it will go to the front of the line to get repaired.
