Hey yall.. I was wondering if I could shoot some sports photography w/ the Tamron 28-300 lens, since right now this would be the only one to fit my budget. However, I wanted to have some sports shots for my college application (photography).

I'd be so thankful if anyone could help me out..

How would you shoot sports w/ that lens? (concerning ISO, shutter etc.) lets say on a day with fair amount of lighting..

Thanks,
Matt :D

on a budget i would say the 100-300 would be eternally better than the 28-300. although still nowhere near the best.

I have a tamron 28-300 and I don't think it would be very good for sports. At 300mm you would be looking at 6.3 so you would really have to have alot of light. The 100-300 I believe is 5.6 at 300 so it wold be a little better.

I agree with MDoc. I've used the Tammy for sports afor a couple of months and you need a lot of light to freeze the action at f6.3. On a bright day you can get away with it.
And above 200mm images tend to be a little bit soft soft.
However I've you're on a tight budget you can't get much better than the Tammy.

Bump up the ISO!

It's a good lens, but not good enough for fast action sports IMO.

Lawn Bowls maybe...

I assume they are shot with the 28-300? or the 100-300?

Look, the equipment is important, but it does not make the photographer. I am shooting with a very slow Tamron 70-300 lens and I still get great shoots at day games. However, when I was shooting at the Maryland Vs. Florida State game last week I noticed that I need to save up for the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS lens cause it was to slow to get clear shots at night. Other than night games, get this inexpensive lens and I promise you will get some good shots.
