I sold my old EOS 1N RS body and used it to help me get the 70-200 f4L. Can't wait to try it out. I just couldn't justify the f2.8L right now. All I'd really like to get now is the 17-40 L and I'll be happy :)

You will love the lens. Look at my pics in the Critique and Shared Photo sections.

Very light and nice colors

Welcome to the Big Leagues :)

I'm hoping once I get the 17-40L, I'll be happy for a while. I'm insisting to my wife that our family, in fact, CAN live on Costco's $1.50 hot dogs until I get all my lenses

Ryan, I'll be checking out your pics now!

Wow! You must be rich! We eat grubworms when I'm in L-glass buying mode. They're really not bad. If you season them right they taste (yup! here it comes!) just like chicken!!

Hadn't thought of that. Where do I get grub worms?

Oh! Now here's my chance:

$12 a pound. No carbs and superlow in fat and high in protein. The NW strains have quite a delightful taste that leave a slight aftertaste of portabella mushrooms.

(Cool! If I sell enough of these I can get more L-glass!)

Ewwww.

That's mare expensive than steak!

On the other hand, steak doesn't wiggle, so I suppose there is an entertainment factor in there somewhere.

I bougt the same lens a few days ago.

I haven't really had a chance to take any great shots with it yet. The weather has been pretty crappy in general.

What filter did you buy?

I bought the Tiffen 3 pack(UV, 812, polarizer) for $64. Bad idea? OK?

I read a post here of someone who used a tiffen filter on the lens and saw the contrast take a dive. He ended up using another brand instead, but don't remember. I didn't get one because I wasn't sure at the time. I'd have to do some more research or ask for opinions here of people that have actually tried different filters.

It is great you got the lens and it is even cooler when you take some photos with it. If I know you you will just carry it back and forth to work to tease me with it.

You've bought a great lens. It has great colours and contrast and I'm sure you'll love it. Just be warned that the 'L' bug might bite hard once you've seen the results ;-)

Has anyone compared the 16-35 with the 17-40?
