All can be had in the 2,500 - 3,500 range some new some used, which one would you buy and why.

I love the frame rate for snowmobiling action shots, but would love a full frame.

Thanks

I chose 1d mark II because I shoot primarily sports.

In the snow......bounced out on the back of a snowmoble.......in what degree weather?

.......do you really need to ask?

Question 2........mostly RAW or JGP?
Mostly RAW......mk2........same camera as N
Mostly JPG.......mk2n.......Picture Styles gives sharper JPG's

......end of story ...LOL

Buy both!!!

Okay, with that said, the 1DMKII/MKIIn would suit your needs best.

What s the difference in the mkII and the IIn?

The screen, a slightly bigger buffer, picture styles, saving to two separate cards(SD, CF) the RAW and JPG files.

Far too slight to pass up a deal on a used 1DMKII if you can get it for the low 2k's at under 20k auctations.

I really would like full frame, why did they have to make the 5D sooo slowwww, even 5 frames would be nice? I know they still wanted to sell the 1D's and 30D's.

I'm still thinking of giving up some speed to get full frame and 12MP, the camera can be had for 500 less but then I have to add back in the grip, hmmmm.

Thanks for the heads up on the difference with the MKII to MKIIn.

The extra speed would need a lot of power, or multiple ADCs with their own power demand.
BTW, the extra power means hotter, means more noise..

I would really consider a 1d for lots of snowboarding stuff. Weather sealing could be really important depending on how close you get to the action.

The 1DMkII or 1DMKIIN would be much better for sports. I have both the 5D and the 1DMKIIN, and the 5D is used primarily for portraits and landscapes, while the 1D is used mainly for fairs, festivals, sports, activities and wildlife.

The full frame is nice, but certainly not essential.

I love sports photography, but I shoot mostly weddings and portraits, and some fashion. For me, I can't afford the 1Ds Mark II right now, so I had to choose between the 1D Mark IIn and the 5D. As much as I love the 8.5fps and the pro body, I couldn't see giving up the full freame and the 12.8MP (the clarity through vails is unbelievable!). 3fps is kinda slow, so I guess I really need to practice on my timing!! I do shoot a bit of surfing....for that I can still use my 20D. Eventually (fingers crossed), I'll add the Mark IIn, then, maybe someday, the 1Ds (Mark III)??? In the snow and the action though, I'd probably have opted for the Mark IIn. Either way, you're getting one of the best SLR's on the market! Good luck.

^^Buy a 1dMKII. There's little diff between the MKIIN and the MKII. The MKII can be had for about the same price as the 5D currently. And you won't have to save up as much.

I have two 1Ds and am looking for a third. I can have a 5D but I'm sure I'd kill it in a month with no weather sealing.

I need sealing, full frame and rarely shoot abouve iso 800. So 1Ds for me.

NO Snowboarding, if it doesn't have a motor it's also tooo slowwww (LOL). I ride a turbo 4 stroke 370HP sled.

I like to shoot sports (sledding), landscapes, and people. So I guess at 1.3 crop the MKII is the best for sports and somewhat of a comprimise for everything else.

Thanks a lot for all the input, your opinions and expierence are greatly appreciated.

Well the 1.3 is kinda in th emiddle. It still can shoot fairly wide. The 16-35 has a FOV of about 20-21mm. That's pretty damn wide. You also get a little more reach with the 1.3 crop which is nice. Sometimes I wish i had more FOV on my 300mm with the 1DMKII.

If I could afford a 1D Mk2n it would already be on order. If you have not held one try it, but be warned, you won't want to put it down. I have, for me, too much money in glass to rearrange my lens line up and I would not be comfortable with them on a FF format.

I've seen the 1DMKIIN in action and that is one fast camera. But if you can't afford it, the 1DMKII isn't a slouch. It's plenty rugged for your needs. The 5D is slow, but I don't do that much fast shooting compared to most. So, if you don't need FF, I'd say, save a little while longer and get the N version.

There's no real difference between the N and the non-N. :)

You are one lucky dog.

I traded my 5D for the 1dmkIIn. For the type of shooting I was doing at the time it just made more sense. There are a number of things that appealed to me about the 5D, but all things considered, the 1 series proved more suitable for my needs. If you want to do those sequence type shots, no camera will out perform the 1d mkIIn in terms of frames per second.

I'd buy the 1DMkIIN for sports shooting.

Well, currently that is. I think the 1D is still king on fps.

I found a 1D MKII for 3000 CAD, under 5,000 exposures.
