IXUS shutterspeed and focus questions

When checking the Info on various pictures, I note that the focusing point appears variously as [left], [centre] or [right]. Do I have any control over where the focusing point is, or does the Ixus automatically find the area of best contrast?

Also, I understand that in Manual mode I can achieve exposure times of up to 1s -- but I can't get any shutter speed longer the 1/8s. Any advice would be welcome.

Dragon, unfortunately there is little you can do with the focus or shutter speed with the IXUS. The digital ELPH is designed to be a magic box and there is little that can be adjusted. I would encourage you to check out the compact digitals forum on this web site. Let?s pool our knowledge and learn together. :)
