Shooting Shooting !!

Afternoon,

Bit of a different one, but has anyone shot shooting (sorry for the poor pun!:D ) and have any tips at all. Apart obviously from not getting shot?! :confused:

Have been asked to do some pictures by the patron of a shoot nearby to me. Its a pheasant shoot, so should be lots of opportunity for "sportraits" etc and pics of the gun dogs too whilst wandering around in the woods. Combined with the early morning light am looking forward to the opportunity to try something different from shooting men with odd shaped balls!!

But if anyone has done it before and has any ideas they would be gratefully received.

I do that here in NC but for dove and quail, Some equipment you need as a must, no fooling you really need this stuff. Some sort of safety or shooting glasses, an extra (stack them)skylight filter for your lens for the same reason you need those glasses on your eyes. Well broken in boots, double faced pants if you plan to follow the hunting party. Lastly you absolutely need to be gun aware. Other than those treat it like any other outdoor sports event. I really enjoy doing these so much so that I leave my shotgun home and make the camera my hunting tool that day.

Hi Paul.

I covered a few of these ,some guns will buy shots of them shooting and some wont . If you catch the cartridge as itis ejected itmakes for a more apealing shot.

The biggest seller by far is the shot of the owner's dog retreiving some like this (http://www.eventsphotographer.com/portfolio22.htm). Be carefull shooting labs as they can look like flying pigs.

Like still crawfishsaid beaware of your surroundings .

I never have been bird shooting - but go deer "hunting" during the season - I like to joke at the end of the day about how many more I bagged and released... I found that shooting on the hunt is much like normal hunting - the only difference is that one can tend to get tunnel vision down the lens - so make sure you've got the bright colors and always think safety first. So I know I'm just repeating what everyone else said - but the other most invaluable piece of knowledge i've picked up is carry a hand full of ziplock baggies - because I don't know how many times I've been out hunting and the weather hits... - I also like to keep a small garbage back just to put everything into if it starts getting nasty...

You won't be in the woods the beaters will be in the woods, you will be in the field and the pheasants will come to you, its so easy to hit them they come out by the dosen and you just blow the **** out of them, don't forget to take some ear plugs

Thank you so much for the help and advice.

I am fully weatherproofed already, apparently the weather forecast is shocking for tomorrow. May take a snorkel and flippers rather than the sturdy boots!!!

Otta - that picture that you posted on here is absolutely wonderful - I am not sure, but do you have a picture section on the pro's galleries on Photobox? Seen some work similar on there which, like yours, is brilliant. Also, where in Bucks are you? Used to be in Beaconsfield once upon a time.

Anyway thank you all kindly for the advice - I shall post some results so you can see the results of your tips!
