:?
I recently got a new Powermac G5 and am now running OSX. They have a great program called 'iPhoto' which I now use instead of the canon software to import my photos from my camera.
However, the problem is I can't figure out how to get my movies off my camera. Has anyone else had the same problem? Do I have to download the canon software for OSX? I'd rather stick with 'iPhoto' if I can.
The other way I thought might work around the problem is to mount the IXUS on the desktop instead, like an external drive. But I can't seem to do this either.
I'm really stuck so any suggestions would be great.
thanks!

You Cannot access the Canon cameras as a mounted drive in OS X
IPhoto will not read movies from the Canon camera, you will have to use ImageBrowser or purchase an external Card Reader.

To my knowledge, Willy's correct. The camera will not show as a mounted drive on OS X.

Your compact flash should show up on the Mac desktop when you plug it in or use a CF reader. Treat it like a disk and drag the movie files nested inside folders (extension is .avi) to your hard drive. Open them with Quicktime player.
What I do on photos is copy them in original form to my drive from the flash card and then later import them into iPhoto. That way I have originals and the iPhoto library versions both available. This eats some disk space which is cheap but protects you if iPhoto becomes obsolete or your software has problems. I back things up to CD or DVD's as well. Don't let iPhoto suck the pix off the CF and then erase the CF for you. That's too dangerous. You can change this default.

Hmmmm, but when I use the USB cable to connect my IXUS to my mac it doesn't show up on the desktop. The mac can only see my camera through an application - like iPhoto. It doesn't actually treat the CF like a disk.

You are right. I also saw nothing on the desktop and could only get at the pix via iPhoto. I am also a new S400 owner and was doing all my Mac downloads with a CF reader rather than plugging in the camera. My old Sony digicam was identical whether the camera was plugged in or using a reader so I assumed it would be the same with the Canon.
I'd head down to store and get a CF reader that plugs into the a Mac USB port. With that you'll see a desktop drive for the CF and have more control. Remember to eject the drive before manually removing the CF card from the reader.
