Help needed with Ice Hockey

Hi,

I've been asked to go along to a local ice hockey match to take some photos for a friend and I'm not sure how I'm going to get properly exposed pictures so I'm looking for some advice.

My initial plan would be to use a high ISO and take a light meter reading at the venue then use that to set the camera on manual. How does that sound? Would anyone just let the camera's exposure meter do the job with a little exposure compensation?

What have you guys found to be the best way to shoot indoor ice hockey?

Any advice would be great and I'll be sure to post the results.

I did ice hockey with a 1dmkII and a sigma 70-200.. I metered off the ice as reccomended by others and shot manual.. iso 1600 and shutter down to about 1/320 or less... I suppose all ice arenas have varying light..

Thers a few on here who do a lot more.. I know theres a dedicated website and forum for shooting ice hockey but cant recall where.. others might know :)

Use the 70-200 f2.8
Shoot a Custom White Balance off the ice before hand.
I use Tv 350-750
ISO 1600 unless you have very good lighting then 800
+ 1/3-1/2 Exposure Compensation is helpful also
Center Weight Focus in Burst Mode

These should put you in the ballpark and make for some decent shots. Good PP will make for the keeper product.

Cool. No advice, but sounds like a fun project.
