A little bit of background reading on what's going on:
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/indepth/section/0,,5010461,00.html

Disclaimer: I do not necessarily share the same opinions nor am I involved. I am a photography hobbyist who is shooting for fun and getting a little practice with the camera on a weekend.

Actually you should have seen the amount of SLRs out there. Lots of Rebels with 18-55's. The 75-300 USM seems to be a very popular entry level zoom too. Working pros togged out with their usual combos too. I shot the whole event with the 1D and 70-200. Didn't bring a wideangle, maybe I should have but I didn't want to bother changing lenses or carrying two bodies.

So, here we go - hit me with the critique and comments!

Part 1 : Playing to the crowd

"So what's this thing run on?"

"Feet" (they carry it and move)

But not all take it that seriously... this protest had a carnival feel at times:

I call this one "How To Afford Your First L Lens"
(yes, I smudged the phone number in PS cuz I didn't feel like I should be posting phone numbers on the net even if they did display them in full public view...)

Very appropriate.....

Sorry ma'am, you make the letter "L" red and capitalized, as such: L, not the letter "O" http://pix.lightrefineries.org/img/crackup.gif

Official news media later reported (link1 (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,20779742-661,00.html), link2 (http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200611/s1791848.htm)) some of these people may have been responsible for violence. I was lucky to give that a miss.. wouldn't wanted to have been there.

Nice stuff. I like the one of the lady with the big hoola hoop the best. Good to see that there was a peaceful protest after seeing the violence from down there on TV.

Thanks spam, I later discovered I'd been very lucky and followed the protesters to the peaceful side of the event (Little Collins/Russell St). Two blocks away (Exhibition/Flinders) they were indeed smashing up stuff.

I'm not paid for a "combat PJ" role so I didn't want to put myself and my gear at risk

Further comments still welcome!

Nice shots, I really like the top down one on the protesters and the police.

The irony of these guys is they probably drive 1980 Buicks that get worse gas milage then the average SUV. Too bad you couldn't have got that. LOL
