i'm pretty sheepish about posting any thunderbirds pix after seeing some of that blue-sky stuff shot with a real airshow lens. but...o well, right? ya gotta try. my crappy-skies short-lens flying shots are certainly not worthy, but how about the t-birds from a different point of view?

this last one is one of my favorites. mad respect to the mad skillz of major nicole malakowski, who flies thunderbird 4. what i especially liked, though, is that in spite of how big a deal this really is for girl power, the t-birds didn't make much of it. she's just another fighter jockey at another day of work flying inches from her teammates....at four or five hundred mph. wow.

OK barP here comes a FWAP to the back of the head!!

Both 3 and 4 are very strong images. You did a good job with the gear you have. Remember that overcast can actually add to the look of ground shots by lower contrast
and helping to create more detail in ths shadows.

The only (minor) gripe I have is that ir is cropped to tight on the left. Other than that great stuff. Number 1, ho hum. #2, too much gear and distracting backgrounds.

Trust me make an 11x14 of either 3 or 4 and next year get the team to sign it, frame it mount that puppy on the wall !!

Take care,
Les Baldwin

Some good stuff. I like 3 and 4 as well.

So...what is an "Airshow lens" anyway. I'll have to put one of those on my Christmas list :)

wow...that was totally deserving of a fwap to the head!! dunno how that happened!

the correct image 4 is now up.

airshow lens, to me, is something at least 400mm.

I like your solution to a short lens. Lemons... lemonade! :D So...what is an "Airshow lens" anyway. I'll have to put one of those on my Christmas list Think 100-400 f/4 L, unless you have a blackmail porn tape of Santa. Then you might consider 500mm options? :D
