Ok, I have concluded that with my other lenses, this is the lens of choice. I have a 50 and a 100 prime so have the lower end covered pretty well. Need the higher end for sports and wildlife. I am going to lunch and unless someone talks me out of it when I get back think I will order it.

If I feel the need to add the 28-135 IS may consider selling my primes to get that one.

Unless all you want to shoot are portraits and sports, I'd say that you've got a gaping hole on the wide end. But, be that as it may, the 70-200 would be great for outdoor sports but you'll probably need something a little longer (300 - 400) for wildlife unless the wildlife you had in mind is at the zoo. :)

200 is still pretty short for wildlife. Get a 100-400L!!!

1. I purchased my primes - 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 - because I was disappointed in the 28-135 IS, which is a pretty good lens. So don't sell your primes!

2. I have the 70-200/f4 and love it. But if you're going out to chase wildlife, I agree that the 100-400L makes more sense.

3. I'll be checking back for your follow up post after my lunch :)

Ok, I'll try to talk you out of it. Consider the Sigma 70-200mm HSM instead ;) I was in the same situation, and I went for the Sigma. A little bit pricier (but not much) and it haven't let me down one time. You also get a constant f/2.8 and a tripod-mount as a bonus. Also the "standard" 77mm filter-thread that the Canon f/4 don't got. Built like a tank, and weights the same as one, but it's good ;)

Do It! . . . . and while your at it you might as well order the tripod ring too. I love "power shopping" with other peoples $$$$$$ That's beacause I have the lens and ring and don't have any money.
