There was an entry by someone that tried a filter and ended up getting something different because the contract dropped when he used a Tiffen filter.
I haven't gotten a filter yet, but I can't seem to find that post again in the SEARCH.
What suggestions/brand do you guys have for a clear filter for this lens?

How much should I be looking at for a B&W filter? Just so I know if I'm being charged too much.

I just bought that lens this weekend...
I got the 3 pack Tiffen UV, 812 and polarizer. Is this a downgrade to the lens? Comments?

Hi Eric I have a new canon 70-200 2.8 and I paid good money for a and this may sound strange Nikon filter. I had heard about too much light fall off with the Tiffen. Then I started a photojournalism course. I was told to lose the filter and keep the lens hood on at all times. The reason was image quality. I was amazed at the difference it made in my pics and even with a good filter the light fall off was noticable.
You may be as I was worried about protecting your lens. I have spoken to many photographers who all work the same way these are people who are more likely to sustain damage. Not one had any damage.
I now shoot this way as well the image quality for me is important until they make a filter that is as good quality as your lens your images will suffer slightly.
I do own other filters Hoya, rodenstock, all good filters. The only one I will use on any lenses now is a cir pol to remove glare.
If you go with a lens get a good one you have a great lens. Hoya multi, BW Canon Nikon Rodenstock
Take good care
Tom
