Pasquatch ,
AWSOME SHOTS,
you bring up fond memories, of growing up in Maine, a little-crusty-old man had a pair of draft horses, we'd see him in the fields dragging timber on the way to school on the bus,
summer or winter, hed be out there logging, he had a sled for xmass rides,
this guy was only 5ft 4,,maybe,
i went to the friberg-fair one year and went into the horse arena,
they were having the hoss-pulls,
the little-old-man, was there standing in front of his horses, towering over him,
not a sound in the arena, except the jingle of the harnesses,
the man raised his arms, the horses lowered there noses, to his hands, and pushed
there heads to his on each side, he reached up and held there ears,
suddenly, the man slid his hands down there faces yelling GEEEYAAAAAA,
THOSE HORSES, THOSE BEUTIFULL HORSES,
showed there POWER that day, musles bunched up and rippled and as a team they
leaned and broke the sled loose,
RAW horse power, amazing,
its a memory i love,
the love those horses had for that little old man,
the horses won, the compitition,
the way the man asked his horses to win,
won the hearts of the whole arena,
like i said beutifull shots,

I think your assessment is completely off base and driven by human emotion not knowledge of horses. I have seen horse pulls before and like any working horse they are acclimated to what they do. Riding on a horses back is the most unnatural thing there is for a horse. instinctively it is not unlike a predator jumping on their back to take them down. To say that it is cruel is pretty much condemning all horsemanship. Making a horse jump fences, prance around a ring, pull a cart, run around barrels, strapping a blanket to their back and having red hot shoes hammered to their feet are all exactly the same as having them spend a few seconds breaking a sled free if this is what their job is.
donboyfisher

ok - terrified is perhaps too harsh a description, but its not a happy face to me. but aside from that, I do like the photos as photos, really capture the action.

thats NOT terror, in there eyes,
and the horses that, PULL grew up pulling, its in them, or they wouldent do it unless whipped,
what about the horses that race, the track, the jockies whipping them in the last dash to the end,
NO if you had ever been to a pull, and seen the horses up close,
youd see there no pain involved,
there is,
excitement,
adrenalin,
but the horses know why there there,

Borderfox - I'm in Iowa, USA. We've had a lot of snow and bitter cold this year. I got my camera (XTi) late last fall. Still working on figuring out camera settings. I have only a few pictures without snow in them. I am looking forward to spring. I'm tired of pictures that have white backgrounds. lol. Thanks for the compliment on Chance. He's a very cooperative model except he likes to get too close and I get a lot of big nose shots.

Your Stella reminds me so much of my own beloved Stella who sadly passed away last month. We rescued Stella from near death by starvation in May 2007, she could only be transported a short distance due to her weakness, it was almost 6 weeks before she was strong enough to withstand the 3 hour trip to my place, with many rest stops along the way that made it into an 8 hour trip in the end.

Show horse, painted hooves and all. The horse is being shown in hand and not under saddle. It is very critically judged on conformation, appearance, demeanor, and a bunch of other stuff.

I really like the 'coming in from the dark' type of shots. .. it always seems to set a nice mood. Those are pretty.
The *naughty* horse biting the fence is a great shot too.. cracks me up (since I've even gotten up in the middle of the night to splash hot sauce on fence boards when I've awoken to *that* sound!")
I was working on something else.. but had the opportunity to grab 'the doorway' shot to see how it would meter/etc. ... I kind of like it.. but now, we get to go back and shoot it with the gal's' own horse (and no tail bag!).. LOL. We were moving this horse into the pasture to photograph it . .. but it wasn't her horse.

She is by a QH halter stallion and her dam was shown in Western Pleasure so she is kind of bred to be an all arounder although we got out of that business. She is actually a Paint but her belly spot doesn't show from this side. Thank you for the compliment and to Flo as well. :)

Hi everyone, this is my first photo post :)
These first two are from when I was up at a rodeo in Manitoulin Island, in Ontario. We wandered down the road and found a beach to ride at. It was incredibly fun!
First is myself riding "Lexy". She is my riding instructor's horse, who I also run barrels on! My sister took this shot
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/cascas2/IMG_2808.jpg
And second is some friends, Dan and Denise. Definitely a favourite shot of mine.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/cascas2/IMG_3047.jpg
And lastly, is one of Al and Karyn Foster's bucking horses, at home in his field. A bit blown out, but I loved the photo, and the horse!

Great photos everyone!Bring them on! You can only attach 2 per post and the general rule is 8 per thread unless more are wanted, which they are. I think the idea is not to make this your gallery but post let others post and post again. If you host them yourself you can post more tha 2 per post.
