First shot is an experiment I was trying with a large window for backlight. I'd be interested in comments of if you like it or not.

Second is just a belly shot, but I so love the belly! I've been struggling to get my studio lighting right and continue trying... I think it's time that I enroll in a class of some sorty... Any suggestions for the Phoenix area?

I'll try to share more in a couple of weeks, I am sooooo behind right now and am trying desperately to catch up.

Hope everyone is well... I miss the forum.. :)

Love number 1 but think it would be sooo much better if her head was tilting up a little more...other than that EXCELLENT!

I love #1 as well- very creative. I would have liked to see more of the mother's profile- but it still a amazing picture.

Good Work, The PS work is a little noticeable on the bottom of the first one, but these are really good.

Really like them both but I love the idea of the first one. What is she wearing? Looks like a very light piece of material, how did you get it to stay?

I like #2 but love the 1st one. The one thing that would have made it better ... if their arms weren't up like that. It shows as stumps leading nowhere. But, it also blocks the silhouette of her head.

Thanks for the comments guys... I'll definitely try the first shot again on my next maternity session. I like the idea, but true, it does need some improvement. I had them put their hands up because I was not getting the full sillouette of their bodies as the arms were in the way.. I wish I would have had the mom dunk her head a little more through the arms.. I'm loving the curve of their bodies though. I keep wondering if I should PS the lower right to "sculpt" her backside down just a bit...???

Newbie, the PS work you see at the bottom center is just the highlights hitting the wrap she was wearing... I didn't darken it or lighten it because I thought I liked seeing the highlight? Should I do something there?

D.Craig, what would you suggest for arm placement next try? I want them out of the way, but I see that they are cut off to going nowhere.... like a stump... great description. Maybe I should crop a little tighter at their heads so the arms are non-existent?

JW22... the fabric is just some very sheer white material that I bought at walmart... It's kind of like the sheers you would use for curtains, but a little bit lighter in weight and almost meshy... Does that make sense? I wrap, tie, and tuck and occasionally use a clip or closepin, or safety pin to hold a difficult spot in place. Usually I tuck it through a strapless bra, and tie it behind, and then For the bottom one, I thread it through the side or back of panties and tie it...

Thanks again for commenting everyone. I always enjoy the criticism... :)

Happy Day

I like the first one best, but think it would have been better if her breasts had been bare, making this something of a figure study as well. I find the contours of the fabric covering to be distracting.

I suggest that you have the arms more down and around each other ... but like this one, not with his arm blocking her tummy. So on his arm closest to the camera he would have it by his side as I think her did on this one.

I like the suggestion of creating it as a figure study ... if you have a couple that is not shy. In full silhouette, that way no clothing would affect the lines and contours of the body.

Thanks again guys... I would have LOVED to do this as a figure study! I tried to get there, but she just wansn't up for it... I'll keep waiting for that wiling subject because that would be so beautiful to capture.. Someday... hopefully.

Thanks for the suggestion D.Craig... The arms were difficult for me in this shot...

I like to see the curves of her back & belly and don't know where the arm placement should fall so as to not interfere...Maybe really low on her hips?

Having the arms overhead helps the spine to curve a little bit more and I really was going for a very curvy spine look here... I started out with arms down at their sides but didn't like seeing the framing of them along their bodies... it also lacked intimacy because they were not touching each other, so I tossed it before I even shot it...Those darn arms! If I had any idea how much I would love this shot, I would have taken more time posing it and trying more variations.. .this was a quick grab at the very and of a 2-hour session... fun couple too! ;)

Interesting shots Kristy. I am starting to look around for some ideas for maternity shots. I hope to get some lighting equipment for Christmas and with any luck I will have model to follow shortly thereafter. Thanks for the ideas.
