Hi, I got my hands onto this EPSON 785EPX model. I printed a 8x10 image. I am a little rusty on resolution. The printer can print I believe 2660x720 dpi. I am using a 4 MP camera. The picture was taken using the highest 4 MP setting in FINE mode. I noticed that the picture has some very small pixels. Is this normal. I want the best I can get in terms of print below $500 for an INKJET or if you folks suggest a COLOR Laser with PHOTOSMART technology that would be great also.

The bottom line is. If my printer's resolution is not 4 mp and my camera is what settings should I use. Can someone give me a brief tutorial on printing resolutions compared with the cameras

Thanks

Abe

1. Check that you have the correct paper selected in the printer driver.
2. In your photo editing software make sure your resolution is 250-300ppi
3. In you printer driver, make sure your printer resolution is set to 1440dpi. More is not always better.
4.Turn off high speed printing.
You should be able to get a fine 8x10 with a 4mp camera. You shouldn't be seeing pixels.

Which Software do you use to print?

Which Software do you use to print?
Photoshop Elements 2.0. The only settings above that are set in PSE2 are the image resolution and size. The other settings are all in the Epson printer driver.

You asked me to set my DPI settings to 1440. My Printer can not handle that setting.

Anyone out there that can give me a MEGAPIXEL to PHOTO PRINTER Tutorial?

I just checked the printer manual for that printer at the Epson web site in pdf. format. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Doc&oid= 14365&prodoid=1567218&category=Products&menuSpec=1 5
If you check the printer manual, you will see if you go into :
Print > Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX > Custom > Advanced,
there is a drop down menu that allows you to pick resolutions up to 2880. That's overkill. Pick 1440dpi. Make sure you have the correct paper selected in the printer driver where it says "Media Type". Use sRGB or ICM as you printer output.
If you are unfamiliar with this, just pick the correct paper under "Media Type", and select "Automatic" on the first page of the printer driver.
Your comment above suggests that you need to spend some more time looking over the manual. :)

Appreciate the input. I found the CUSTOM setting. What does the sRGb and ICM mean. I would like to know if when I printed an image in AUTO mode if it printed it in 320 dpi or 1440dpi. When I selected customer it was set to 320. Does this value automatically adjust to 1440 when printing a 4 MP image?

Thanks

It has nothing to do with megapixels. You tell the printer driver what kind of image you are printing by selecting the appropriate paper. It does the rest. If you hit the help button while in the printer driver, it will tell you what each choice means. The Advanced Tab gives you more choices as to quality. Your questions are answered in the manual. The boards are a great place to learn things and you are welcome to ask questions, but they don't replace the effort you need to expend reading the manual.

I have that printer and 360 dpi looks terrible. You must set it to 1440 or 720 to get good quality. My prints are fantastic but I set everything custom. Use photorealistic....colorlife paper will set the dpi to 1440 automatically but others will not.
