A few days back I was bad mouthing Secure Digital and questioning why oh WHY Canon would install an SD slot on the new 1D Mk2

Well PaulB edificated us on the issue,. and here it is decribed on DPreview.

It is in fact a pretty darn cool idea! :)

The original reason for Secure Digital was the RIAA and it's "monopoly on intelectual property consortium" created and pushed SD which has software designed into that will prhibit the use of the media from being used to play back prited MP3s.

I will not get into the issue of piracy here, but the downside is that what it amounts to is paying for someone load spyware onto a product that you can then only use in ways that the consortium sees fit.

Anyway,. I am glad to see that from this devious technology there emerged an actually usefull application for the consumer who pays for it,. as opposed to a usefullnes that only applied to Orin Hatch. :mrgreen:
