ok..
I have 2 300mm lens..
A Canon 75-300 f4 and a Sigma 70-300 f4 Macro lens...
Should I keep them both or sale one? Or do each have its advantages?
I am wanting a BG-E2 and was thinking I could sell one and get it, but if each have an advantage then I will keep them both..
Dont want to be a Glass collector..

I'd get rid of the Canon and keep the Sigma. I had the 75-300 and am actually glad that a burglar recently stole it from my home.

The Sigma is a Macro.
How/why did you end up with them both?

Well.. I have had the canon and I ran across a good deal on the sigma, and as mentioned it has the Macro so I picked it up...
Now I am like why do I have 2.... so trying to decide on the keeper and the one to sell...

You will be happier selling both and replacing them with the 70-200 F4 ;)

I have no experience with the Sigma. But I had the 75-300 and replaced it with the 70-200L 2.8 IS. I never miss it although I have captured some good shots with it... but then again I now get excellent shots nearly all the time with the big white! money well spent. save your money and go for the white one with a red stripe.

Sigma! This is easy :)
The Canon has nothing your sigma has, infact it has less IQ and wideness.

He has a Sigma 70-200 2.8
Oops, didnt see that. Never expecgted someone to have two 70/75-30 lenses and a 70-200 2.8 ;)
In that case, i'm going to try again - get rid of both and get the 100-400 :)
Checked and he doesnt have the 100-400!!

sadly the 100-400 fits the majority of my focal lenths I use.....
I just got the Sigma 70-200 2.8, still practicing with it... I have a blister from using it the first time, that lens and the 20D is heavier than what I use to use.. I like it so far.. just still fine tuning...
I have not used the Sigma 70-300 yet, I am going to try it out Friday and see if I like it...

I figure you will eventually sell both 7x-300 zooms after you get used to your f/2.8. I have the Sigma 70-200/2.8 and it completely outclasses the two other 7x-300's you've named - as it well should!
And for AI Servo performance, HSM on the big Sigma means everything. No contest.

I really like the Sigma 70-200, just used it once so far, it will for sure be my most used lens.. Would I be better off to get a 2X converter and sell both of the other 2....
And if so.. Sigma or Canon converter?

The 70-200 is quite a heavy lens. It was one of the reasons that I decided to compromise and get the canon 70-200 f4 instead. But if you need low light capabilities, not much of a choice as the only other option could be a prime.
If you are trying to replace the 70-200 with the 70-300, I am not sure if you will be thrilled with it. All the best and let us know....

good i never baught Canon 70-300 or Canon 75-300, i had Sigma 70-300 APO DG before and i sold it with no regret. My 70-200 f2.8L IS do the job more than Excellent.

Take some pictures with both and keep the one that takes the better pictures. I expect they will be similar at shorter lengths and the Sigma may be a little better as you get close to 300, if you got a good one. Howver, there is variation in all lenses from copy to copy, so make your final choice on which gives better results.
I expect you are keeping a 70-300 lens as a compact travel lens for times when the 70-200 f/2.8 is too bulky to carry.

Exactly and also sometimes I need the reach...
I imagine after a little time I may find I never use them and if so then I will sell them both.
I am not trying to replace the 70-200 at all, I like it.

Sell both and buy the Sigma Ex 100-300 f/4 lens. It's a little heavy, but if you have the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 it should be no problem. It's a great lens.

I have always thought of the 100-300 f/4 as a 70-200 f/2.8 with a built in 1.4x teleconverter.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, would I not be better off to save about $600 and get a 1.4 converter....

Native reach is always better than adding a tcon to something shorter. Unless of course the native reach absolutely sucks and the something shorter kicks booty.

I'd get rid of both of them. Your Sigma 70-200 is bound to be superior. Just get a 1.4X TC.

I agree, but having said that. The 70-200 + 1.4 converter = 98-280mm F/4
The 100-300 + 1,4 converter = 140-420 f/5.6. A little bit of difference, I think.

I have one of those already...
Everyone says sale the canon and wants it... if its the lesser of the two why does everyone want it...
which is a better lens between the two 300's that I have?

I alomost got that lens, for the IS. But went with the EX 100-300, for the zoom instead. I do pretty good hand holding up to 300mm, but with the converter I need some support.
