For someone like me, it's harsh that Canon would come out with such a beauty. It starts to make my thinking process a little wacked. Your brain starts to come up with unjustified reasons why you either NEED it or why you MUST HAVE it.

"Well, I guess I don't NEED to eat EVERY day."

"My daughter never really liked her music lessons anyways."

"Walking to work is WAY more healthier than driving."

"Doctor told me it's 99% chance of recovery, but then, there's still the 1% the tumor will come back. I'll do the operation AFTER the camera  "

"I know a lot of poeple with huge credit card bills. Besides, tax time is right around the corner!"

I am trying to think of a way to justify getting it. I'm in the same boat. I have had issues with the 10D buffer in the past not being big enough and fast enough. This was taking pics of aircraft too. I wonder what the 10D will do when I shoot RAW and have something like the thunderchickens fly just under the speed of sound. Hmmm...the new camera might not be so bad afterall...

I've read alot of the pre reviews on this camera & I thinks its great for those who needs speed for sports or high action. But I'm happy with the 10D and will stick with it for some time. Unless damage or a hell of a windfall comes my way I presently see no need to upgrade until Canon makes an affordable full frame sensor DSLR.
Hopefully everyone thats on a high right now will remember a year ago when the 10D first hit the market it had some minor flaws and will let this camera hit the market and work out any bugs before they leap.
Besides I can but together a good selection of L's for the price of that Camera.

"L" lenses... aauuggh. It never stops does it? I'm saving for those, too!

"Maybe I'll start feeding my dog every OTHER day."

"Wife, are you kidding with the meat AND potatos? No WAY... from now on, it's meat TODAY and potatos TOMORROW!"

..and the list goes on.

Lenses first,. thats really the way to go,. especially if you allready have a very respectable camera like the 10D or DRebel..

No,. I'm looking at the MkII because I am rather satisfied with my lenses,. (after a lot of upgrading etc..) so now I want a better body to get the best out of my lenses ..

....see it truly never does end!

Besides,. two bodies is better than one! One for a fast zoom (70-200mm IS) and one on the 500mm prime... and I'm set!

After one of Ma's bean suppers there is some low rumbling going on that might pass for thunder but somehow I don't think chickens eat beans.

The answer is simple, you mix some nitro into its feed.

Them thar birds will be a-thunderin' reaaaaaaal good.

I found what I want (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=1&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=S earchBar&A=search&Q=*&shs=CA6528MP+&image.x=9&imag e.y=5).

No, it never stops. Likewise, neither does my husband's set of questions.

'What do you need THAT for?' (To take pictures, duh!)

'How much is that going to cost?' (More than we got.)

'Don't you think you have enough?' (NO!)

If my memory serves me, when Canon intoduced the 1D all of the early production went to the outlets that served the press. My rep. at the pro store where I ogle & fondle high end equipment, told me virtually all of the cameras were made available to pros shooting at the Olympic Games that year. I would be surprised if many amateurs will be able to get one before June. For me that may be a good thing. Hopefully Nikon (or others) will bring out a model(s) that will put a downward pressure on the price for the Mark II. I do not own a DSLR yet, and if (when?) the street price gets down around $4k I'll pull the trigger. It will be tough to wait that long using my point & shoot digital or my 1v with L glass. This forum is fanning my desire to get a DSLR. All new lenses & spendy accessories are on hold. for now.

I actually had thought (and perhaps secretly hoped) that Canon was going to do something in the 1Ds range. Just to play devils advocate here for a moment.

What if Canon is actually going to do a unveiling at PAMA of yet another camera in the 1Ds class. Maybe they're just playing with our minds on this one and going to give us the real whammy later.

Maybe I'm too much influenced by the Apple Computer business model, because they've never gone to MacWorld Expo without some kind of surprise up their sleeve---usually a big announcement that few of the pundits had anticipated at all.

I can't believe that Canon has emptied their clip this soon---it's almost certain there'll be more. If you consider the depth of the Canon line, and the explosion of technologies relating to digital photography, one DSLR body and two lenses really would be a puny effort if that’s all there was.

CoolToolGuy

Perhaps this is the 'Super Bowl' announcement, since they'll get the attention of, other than the Olympics, what may be the biggest collection of sports photographers and PJs together this year. The body, as well as the two lenses, all play to that audience for this weekend - the small, light, DO lens, and the wide range of the 28-300. Both of them work for an event with large crowds and a wide range of photo ops. Could be a smart strategy. Then they introduce the stuff that isn't keyed so closely to that customer base during PMA week.

...I can't believe that Canon has emptied their clip this soon---

I love it when y'all talk southern!! :D

But I think that you're right - they have something else up their sleeve.

I was thinking last night about all the people wishing for wider lenses to go with the smaller sensor. But suppose that instead, they decided that the 1.3-crop 8.2 mpx sensor was to become the norm. Then, instead of coming out with a couple of new wide lenses - EF-S or otherwise - , they were to unveil a larger sensored version of the 10D followed by a new DigiReb as production became available.

I realize that this is pure speculation on my part (and I enjoy doing it), but one cannot help but think that some of the new technology of the 1D Mk II would have to "trickle down" to the rest of the Canon lineup.

Time will tell, but the anticipation is killing me.

A camera with a 1.3 FOV 8 MP sensor would not be $1400-$1500. Using the 1D-II pricing logic, such a camera could easily be the $2999.

I can't imagine a sub-$2000 model having anything larger than 1.6 FOV.

But. . . I could not have imagined a 150% price increase with the 1D-II.

And a foul odor it is indeed!

Are you really proposing we need go,. nay RUN back to our respective speculation drawing boards and crack the "dream Camera wish list" again????

Don't we get a break now?

Was all our hard work and misinformation for nothing? I can't do this perpetually! :(

The Thunderchickens are the US Air Force Demo Team, so named because of the design on the F-16s. Look them up you will understand.

heh Heh - I can't help it. Speculation is fun.

But to keep things on subject, this 1D Mk II is the bomb - I know that the 1Ds has more Mpix, but this camera has many features that make it more desirable in real-time use. The speed alone is incredible.

If I had a ton of money or were a pro, this camera would be on my list. Maybe not right away, but as soon as the "gotta have it" new pricing settles down, I'd be in line to get one.

Canon has never announced 2 DSLRs at the same time before, so I don't see any reason to suspect that there's more.

They'll probably have other announcements, but in the digicam realm.

I agree. Remember Canon promised us 20 new "compact" models this year, and that to me means digicams. We're already in february, and still nothing announced in that area, so I think PMA will be plenty of Canon digicams :)

They just about have to put out something in the digicam area. The G5 is a great camera, from all I've heard, but they won't stay in the market long if they don't answer the 8 mpix call. Others have it, even if its noisy. From a purely marketing perspective, Canon has to respond with a high-resolution digicam of their own.

On the SLR front, the 1D Mk II is a quantum leap IMHO, and its technology will quickly trickle down throughout the Canon lineup. Not necessarily at PMA, but before the holiday shopping season. :D

Ahhh don't bother us with symantics! :)

As far as digicams go,. Canon can announce fourty six of them at PMA and I won't notice!

If my lenses won't fit on them,. it doesn't exist

Maybe a new top of the line flash will be released to go wiht the new ETTL2 or whaever it is called?

Guillermo Freige
31st of January 2004 (Sat), 21:19
Rumors said 2 things: Canon will get rid of Sony CCDs in its digicam line, replacing them by their own CMOS sensors, and a more aggresive SD use (probably the same models in CF and SD versions).

CDS:
E-TTL II aparently has nothing to do with the flash, but with the body and how it calculates exposure. All E-TTL flashes will work in E-TTL II bodies using the enhanced functionality.
