View Full Version : Overall, is this a good time to buy a digicam? If not then when is?

Hey guys,

Soon to settle in on a digital camera purchase, I was wondering what time of the year has proven a good time to pick one up, that is, are we seeing the best prices we're going to see for awhile with Black Thursday and Christmas coming up, or is there usually a drop closer to the holiday? Might it be more of a mix and something of a hunt for a particular store's sale or discount? Best place to purchase?

I'd imagine that right as the newer models are rolling out the previous ones would be dropped in price, does that allign with any particular time of year (that we see newer models being released)?

~Maybe a bit broad of a question, but figured worth asking nonetheless, also a bit curious despite whether I can capitalize on the deal or not. Thanks guys.

I think that prices are generally consistent with camera gear all the time, we do have the rebates going on right now that is a great incentive... I do think this time of year is the best to go shopping though.. upgrades are being introduced so slightly older versions are much cheaper and stores are having sales....

Anytime you want or need a digicam is the time to buy. The same goes for any consumer product on the planet. Waiting for the next big thing or major price drop will have you waiting forever, because there's always a next big thing or major price drop.

Check out Wal-Mart and Target though if you can and are interested in a P&S. They're having a price war. They're not a hot location for dSLRs though.

The best time to buy a camera is the day before the critical missed shot.

Alright, thanks guys.

Yeah I wasn't necessarily insisting on waiting for a suspected price drop, more like just curious about when has shown a good time to buy. You're right, the time to buy is set by the consumer, but with something involving research, home, car, expensive electronics, etc, waiting just that bit longer can prove quite advantageous.

Thanks for the quote cos.
