Looking at a flash for my G2, read a lot of posts about the 420 EX from Canon and most seem to like it. Has anyone tried the units from DIGI-SLAVE? Reviews are good... What do you think???

The DigiSlave units are aimed primarily at those with cameras that don't have built in flash connections, therefore they can only use an external slave that is fired by the camera's main flash. Yes, the DS flashes do have hotshoe contacts but on the G2, you will have to set everything manually in order to get a proper exposure. This is the case with any flash besides the EX speedlights. Instead of wasting your money on an inferior flash, get the one that the G2 was designed to be used with, the 420 or 550EX. You will be glad you did.

I have the Digi-Slave 3000 Flash. I was using it with my Canon S20 until I upgraded to the G2. I have used it on the G2 with no problems. I find that since I can't really adjust the flash settings like I could with a 420EX I still get great pics with the flash bouncing off the ceiling.
I will still be purchasing a 420EX when I get the extra $$, but for now the Digi-Slave will work fine. After I do get the 420EX, I will use the Digi-Slave as an "off camera" slave flash for side illuminations.
