Framing of this shot isn't great, the dark water and the bottom right corner does nothing to the image apart from creating distraction.

Sky looks good, therefore I would give it more weight, and use the left bank as leading line, to enhance the mood. Exposure wise is spot on, however, I would probably underexpose this shot by another 1/3 stop to really bring out the further details of the cloud. The bird doesn't do much in this case, it would if it takes up much bigger portion of the frame.

thanks, i appreciate the comment. i know the lower right corner was distracting, but where i was it was hard to dismiss it. any other comments?

Personally I'd crop it a bit more drastically than sGu did. I've tried to put the horizon roughly on the rule-of-thirds line, and I've also tried dropping the exposure and boosting the saturation a bit.
