This is a shot that I took of my daughter this weekend. I took it in front of my Mom and Dad's fireplace. With the antique fireplace mantel and sorround and the hat, I thought the she had kind of a 20's flapper look to her so I thought a sepia conversion would work well. I used an hugh/saturation adjustment layer for the conversion. I set to colorize and then set hue and saturation at about 35.

On a side note we were there to show my parents my daughters hair. It was almost to her butt. She is 6 and decided that she wanted to have her hair cut, and donate it to locks of love. This is an organization that takes donated hair and makes wigs for kids that have hair loss as a result of medical issues such as cancer, etc. This was completely her idea. Her mom and I both really liked her long hair, but when she explained why she wanted to have her hair cut, we could not say no.

Let me know what you think of the picture and the conversion. Any sugguestion, tips, or critiques are appreciated. I am hear to learn.

Wonderful!

Congratulations!

My only complaint is that the low range tones (shadows) are somewhat blocked up. If they could be opened up to show more detail, that would be an improvement. Just sliding the mid-range slider to the left in Image->Adjustments->Levels will make a noticeable improvement.

Yeah some of the detail was lost when I did the sepia conversion, but I am not quite sure how to bring it back out.

So far as I can tell, the Image->Adjustments->Levels still works with a Sepia image.

However, I have never looked into the digital Sepia process - so, I'm not sure that it is the best way to do it. It should be safer to do such an adjustment using Levels before you convert to Sepia.

What a great little girl to donate her hair like that. She's very special!

Thank you, we are really proud of her. She is already planning to grow her hair back out so she can do it again. Just as a point of reference, this was her just before getting it cut.
