Will this be outdoors or indoors? Studio set up? The kinds of poses are endless really. Formal, leisure, intimate, etc. You probably have idea of some poses and the mom will have told you what she has in mind too. Try some out and then check on a computer screen to preview them. Then go back and fine tune the poses.

Because of the child's age, have him pose closely with his mother. This will show a mother-child bond (connection) that the two would naturally have. If he was a teen, he wouldn't be sitting on his mom's lap, etc.

Since he's young he might (will :)) be energetic. Give him some time to be free between shots that way he might be more willing to pose for a moment (or less).

Have the two subjects dress in matching clothing or something that will complement each other. Check child for dirty finger nails, soiled or stained clothing. Also, check for a runny nose, chapped lips, and food crumbs on his face or you'll spend lots of time in PP removing or hiding these things. Be careful of using props because they can distract from the subjects.

Hope this helps.
