Good start Jeremy. As you'll find out, there's a lot more activity in the "Share Photos" section. I guess not too many people like to take the time to browse through large gallerys. Also many photographers are more interested in fishing for comments on their own individual photos, rather than commenting on other people's. Human nature I guess! Best wishes and keep up the good work.
PS - On bright outdoor shots, you may want to get an extension/adapter and use a polarizing filter. They're great for cutting down reflections and bringing out the colors (like good sunglasses).

Thanks for the tip on outdoor shots...I do not have much in the way of accessories for my camera at the moment, but maybe soon. By the way, do you recommend circular polarizing filter, or a linear one? That has alwas confused me!

I don't know about the technical details, but I do know you can use either one with the Canon Powershot G series cameras. Here's a link to a popular site for an adapter and filters for your camera:
