This is from the same series as the shot I submitted yesterday, he was about 35' up on a tree in the late afternoon sun. Using the 400L hand-held.

Nice close up- shows good detail. You can see its brown eyes! What happened to the rest of this interesting bird though? Too close?

These guys can be hard to get near to. Good work!

Hey I like close ups! I have the rest of the bird--somewhere. :) OK-here it is. I'm just so excited about the 400L that I want to show all the detail I can get!

I like them both and they make a nice set.

I agree about the detail- you nailed it, and personally I have no objection to zeroing on a point of interest when you can do it. (I was just curious.) I can't wait to get a 400 or even more!

Go ahead and do it! I had (have) the 200 2.8 and while it takes killer shots, when I try to crop in close to show more detail, they get grainy. Granted I was trying to reach out too far for the lens. Some of my hawk shots are half the lengthof a football field and still I can crop in. I'll post a hawk shot that was a good 80'-100 away in a tree.
