These little tugboats are used on the upper Mississippi River to help the transfer of barges through the Locks here.

Yup, it get's the job done. They also use them to move coal barges to the power plant dock. These are for the smaller jobs though.

This is what they use for the big stuff. :)

True. These are work boats. :)

Although, the Mississippi Queen does stop here a couple times a year. I missed it this year though.

Years ago I looked into taking a river boat cruise. The cost was outrageous! As if the cost of this hobby isn't

I think it would be better to have a job on a boat. Then they pay you to go on the cruise. ;)

I knew a guy who worked on a dredge boat on the Mississippi out of St Louis and he was 4or 5 days on then the same off and it paid well believe me

Towboats and other river boats with crews mostly pay well. Wish I had known about it sooner though. Now I do, I'm too old to change professions even though I've spent a lot of time on boats.

You're never too old. As the song Proud Mary goes,"Left a good job in the city.....":)

Too old for the work, although, I hear there is a big demand for cooks now. ;)

It's a small world. I worked at a shipyard on the east coast back in the 60's, as a welder, what else? ;)
