HI.
This looks like the most likely place to ask this question.
I have been putting my pics on cd and was wondering if there is a prog or method of creating an index card of sorts (something printable) that could be included with the cd (either on it or printed seperately) to reflect the folder names and dates? This would help to find files quicker instead of putting it in the drive and exploreing it. I usually name the folder with a date and name of specific images.
Thanks,
charly

I would think that Thumbs plus might be what you are looking for even though I don't use any indexing programs myself. :?

I've been looking for an easy way to accomplish this and haven't really come up with any "great" solution. Right now, I'm using Excel to keep track of all of my CD's.
1. Open "Find Files" dialogue and search for all files (*.*) on CD
2. Select FILE/SAVE RESULTS and save to a CSV (comma separated) file
3. Import this file into Excel and add a column on the right to list the CD title.
I have found it helps to have good file names - I always start with the date and then list the subject (eg. 040201 - David at school.jpg). I know having the date in the filename is redundant, but it just seems to work more easily for me. Excel will let you sort and search quite easily.
Printing out a contact sheet isn't really viable if you have 700 megs of images.

Thanks for the replys.
I haven't tried thumbs, I assume it's shareware, but I will if I can't utilize any of the other 40 gigs of software I have now!
The contact util in ps isn't a good solution(although I haven't tried it). Like cityboy_ca said, when you have 700 mbs..thats alot of thumbnails! I think I'll try the excel method first..
Does windows make ya kinda dumb or what..used to be back in the dos days you could do just about anything you needed to do!
Thanks for the ideas!!

cityboy_ca...
I cannot get my search result to save in a csv format. Tried forcing it to save as csv extension but xcel won't read it. I use 2k and tried it on wifes xp..same result.
How did you get it to work?

Looks like using breezebrowser I can export the exif data to a txt file, then import to xcel and work with it there.
It's a start...

OK..guess I should have titled this thread cataloging.
Anywho, found a way easier to do my task but you need Breezebrowser. Maybe another prog would work but I have this on hand.
You can Tag all the pics in a folder; goto the File menu and select Save Tags. You then are prompted for a file name, do so; then select .TXT for an extension. BB will save this file in the same folder.
What I did then was to copy to Word and make a print out to include with each cd.
Not the best way but quick and after you find the cd you think you pic is on (via visual inspection), pop it in the drive and use your image viewer.
>EDIT<
I typed this msg prior to testing. WORD doesn't want to copy the txt file without opening the contents. SOO back to the drawing board :(

Hi jesper.
I was trying to make a printed index card to include with my cd's. Didn't really want all the thumbnails..makes the index too large.
