Here are some 100% crops. These were all taken in less than 1/80 second.
All streight from camera (400D) no post processing. (Did apply 20% USM due to the cropping)

Spectacular. I'm planning on getting the 17-40mm f/4L soon and at some point in the not distant future sink in for a 70-200mm. I guess the f/4 IS is on top of that list.
Thanks.

Sorry for the large images, I didn't realise how big they are...
Even though I have deleted them from pbase, they seem to be cached by this server.
Thanks for warm welcome.

You lot need new monitors. The results are great for the shutter speeds used (which I think was the point being made) but critically sharp they most definitely are not.

Thanks for your comments. You are right, the point was the speed but you also need to consider the size.
These shots were taken from 2-3 meters, with a 200mm focal length and f5.6 you simply can't get a larger dof. (You get about 1-2 cm)
Cheers

Welcome to the forum!
First the good news. Those are great shots handheld. You started out with an awesome setup both camera and lens.
Second, the bad news...It practically doesn't get any better than this. Most other lenses you'll be lusting over, don't perform any better (or maybe even not as well) than the 70-200L. Its quite possibly the sharpest zoom canon makes. But we all continue to lust after glass...more often than not comparing its performance to the 70-200Ls.
Congrats on the new equipment!
