This is my first post-a-pic thread and the first time I've actually played around with the setting on my Rebel XT with the kit lens :o
So ... here's what I came up with. The only light in the room is that lamp light and I think the one on the other side of the bed. I changed the WB setting to "Tungsten" and ISO up to 1600

And a test in BW with the Digital Photo Professional software that came with the camera.

C&C are welcome and would love the input of course ... especially about the settings and all that stuff.
Thanks!

The first shot is nice. I would crop out the back of the child's head. There's nothing of value in that space of the picture.
The second is way too dark. Very hard to pick out the guitar. With the right lighting, I think this would be a nice shot.
The high ISO setting lends to a very noisy photo also. You'll want to increase your lighting so you can turn down the ISO to reduce noise.

Q. Isn't that light a "compact florecent"?
"Tungsten" might not have been the best choice.
Just a thought

You captured a nice profile on the 1st image ... nothing of the far eye showing which is correct. You also didn't blow out the detail in the light. Good job.
If someone hadn't pointed out that there was a guitar in the 2nd image I wouldn't have known it. I agree ... way too dark.

Wow ... I just realized how dark the last 2 are! :o Guess my monitor at home is not setup properly and is too bright!
Elaine: Thank you for those tips! I'll play around some more with those lights
Rumrunner: Thank you!
AlexMa: I guess it is a "compact fluorescent" :o I'll try that option next time. Thank you!
D. Craig Flory: Thank you for the compliment on the first pic. I was just letting her play with the strings to turn the light on. She was so concentrated. I'm on a different computer and now I see how dark those last two really are!
Much appreciated.

BTW.................nice captures:D
a lot of emotion on the first shot..........
1600 does start to get a little noisy..........U can still get nice shots though.
If you have "photoshop" or something similir..........they can be "cleaned up" a little.
