Hello I'm new to the digital Rebel and I'm looking for a lens that would allow me to take picture inside a gym without using a flash, I have the standard 17-55mm that came with the camera and a 70-300mm that I used with my Film Rebel. I'm looking for and affordable lens that can get good indoor shots but not break the bank, any suggestions would be appreciated.

depending on your budget. if you want really cheap. the canon 50mm F1.8 is your best bet. only $80, and will take some alright shots.
but a great and yet affordable indoor sports lens is the canon 85mm F1.8 USM. great lens for sports, and at about $320 it shouldnt break the bank, but will allow faster focusing and a bit more reach with higher image quality than the above 50mm

I'd go for either the sigma 30mm f/1.4 or the canon 50mm f/1.4. If those aren't long enough (which I doubt for a gym you can go for either the 85mm f/1.8 or the 100mm f/2). Most people use the 85mm f/1.8 for indoor sport because of its fast focus outweighing the f/0.4 disadvantage over the 30mm or 50mm.
Thats about as fast as you can go without breaking the bank (50mm f/1.2 or the 85mm f/1.2 are more than a grand). Don't be afraid to shoot wide open and bump ISO to 800 - 1600 if need be.

Depending on the gym-lighting and kind of sports, check out the Canon 85 f1.8. It is one of the best for your needs.

You should acertain just how much light there is in the gym(s) you'll be shooting in. Some places really have almost no light, wheras in some you can get away with more.
