View Full Version : Self and Hubby...I think I'm getting better

This is a self portrait of me and my husband. We just did these tonight and I just finished editing them. The first one is just greyscale with brightness/contrast, the second one is with midnight sepia, and I'm posting one more that is midnight black. I would like to know which one you like better. Keep in mind that this picture was a little underexposed to begin with,(self-portraits are HARD!) so it may not look right. I'm fairly new to photoshop, so I'm still working on black and white conversion. Thanks for any constructive criticism.

I personally like the second pic although your shirts blend into the BG so well it looks as if you're heads are just floating there. I think a little BG seperation would work well with these pics.

I think you look more natural in the third one personally :).

akhoopes, I just ran the midnight sepia action (off actioncentral.com) and then dodged and burned the areas that I thought needed it. Thanks!

I like the last version the best and like most everything about the image. However, your hand is not posed well. I'm posting a version where I did a creative crop and cropped off your hand. Hope you like it.

I do like the crop. I'll have to try something similar. Thanks for the input, and I think I saw the one you did of you and your mom that you posted. I liked it.

Nice. Has anyone ever told you that you favor Glenn Close ( http://images.meredith.com/lhj/images/05/m_100266_009_ful.jpg )

great photos of a great looking couple! Ilike the two B&W ones.. in the color ones your husband seems to have a bit of red around his eyes.. makes it look as if he's been crying, has a cold or bad allergies or is about to kill...lol But, I also know sometimes people want to leave things like this as is.. I re did an older pic for my wife, Its of here mom (who's passed away) and her little sister, the sister has big red cheeks, a red nose and a red chin, so i adjusted the tones and used the blur tool to soften so of moms wrinkles, I had the pic looking good, but my "Purist" wife hated it.. made me print out one that actually looked like the original!!! lol

Here I did just a few adjustments on the 3rd image you posted. The 3rd image is the one I liked the best.

The first shot is the best. As for your edit elfy, when you get it that soft makes him look like Boris Koloff

I like your edit pagefile. We're going to try again maybe tonight. As was mentioned earlier, my hand is in a weird position and I wish the hubbies chin was down a little more. He's looks a little chunky. :) If I can get us looking right, maybe I'll try some with our 3 children as well. Doesn't that sound like a nearly impossible self portrait? :)
Thanks for the input.

When you try it again, this time try this. In M mode set to f/11 at 1/125 with you 50mm and have your iso at 100 or 200. Befor you had your iso at 400 and f/2.8 and at 1/60. Just give that a try and see how it comes out. The less you have to do in photoshop the better.

Thanks for the advice pagefile. If hubby will cooperate again I'll try. By the way, does anyone know of any examples of creative kissing pictures? I searched the net, but when you type in "kissing couple pictures", it's a whole lot of what I'm not looking for if you know what I mean. :) Any way we tried some of those the other night as well but we both just ended up looking fat. I would like to get a picture of mostly our mouths and chins. It's super hard trying to pose and take the picture. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks! Brandi

Try this Google Search (http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGGL_enUS177&q=couples%20kissing&oe=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi) there are some there you may like. I didn't look through them all. But its not allot of the other stuff you don't want to see.
