Shades In The Darkness

These are two of the six lamp shades on the fixture over our dining room table! I was playing a lot tonight with the manual controls on my Canon S3. Hope you like this result?

The more I look at this, the more I like it. It makes me think of some of the stylised product type shots that I've seen from the 40's (well, that's the impression I get anyway).

How did you achieve this lighting?

Thanks for the kind comment Mark ;-) The lighting is from the other bulbs in the light fixture casting light on the subject, I simply played with shutter and aperture to achieve this look.

the only thing that bugs me a little (and a real little little) is that the right edge of both shades line up . . . would love to see them offset just a touch.
